Traveling with a Baby

As I am packing for our weekend trip, I thought it would be a good time to share some of my thoughts on traveling with a baby. Traveling with a baby can be an exciting experience, but it can also be challenging and stressful. I have definitely felt a lot of stress around traveling with a baby. My mind always goes to all the things that could go wrong. No matter how peeped I am, I never feel prepared. W Here are some things I do to help myself prepare and make the most of our trips with a baby.

Plan Ahead

Planning is key when it comes to traveling with a baby. Planning entells a lot of different things for me. I make massive packing lists with anything I think we will need or could need (this does result in me over packing but I'd rather be prepared than not). I am big into lists so having the visual of what I need to pack is super helpful for me. I also plan ahead by trying to have a good idea of what our days will look like while we are on a trip. This helps me prep mentally for what I need to have for each day and how my routine with the baby will look like. Sometimes people say that having too much information just causes overthinking but I think in this case, overthinking and over preparing is a good thing!

Pack Smart

When packing for your trip, it's important to pack smart. Bring only the essentials, such as diapers, wipes, formula or breast milk, and a change of clothes. I am for sure guilty of packing far too much for the baby. While packing for this trip, I was like 'cool we are all packed, that was easy' only to realize I had only packed for the baby and neglected to pack for myself lol. I would definitely advise you to stick to the essentials when packing but I don't even listen to that advice so maybe don't listen to me!

Stick to Your Routine

Babies thrive on routine, so try to stick to your baby's schedule as much as possible while traveling. Keep meal and nap times consistent, and try to maintain your bedtime routine. This will help your baby adjust to the new environment and minimize any disruptions to their sleep schedule. I know this is hard when you are away from home but it will hopefully help ease your trip.

Be Flexible

While it's important to stick to your routine, it's also important to be flexible. Traveling with a baby can be unpredictable, so be prepared to adapt to any changes in your plans. I know it is hard to be flexible when you are all use to a solid routine. Be patient and go with the flow – remember, it's all part of the adventure!

Stay Safe

This one may be a given but still important to touch on. When traveling with a baby, safety should always be a top priority. Make sure to bring a first aid kit with you. Keep your baby close to you at all times, either in a stroller or baby carrier. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid any potentially dangerous areas.

Enjoy Your Trip!

Finally, remember to enjoy your trip! Traveling with a baby can be challenging, but it can also be so much fun. Take plenty of photos, make memories, and have fun – after all, your little one won't be a baby forever.

I have attached some of my travel musts below. These are all things we use while traveling with baby girl that has made the whole adventure much easier!

I hope these tips and ideas were helpful for you and will aid you in your upcoming travels! And stay tuned for November where we will be flying with baby girl for the first time!
